Mayoral candidate Eric Adams fundraises on a yacht for 61st birthday
No days off! Democratic Mayoral nominee Eric Adams celebrated his 61st birthday talking about how to reinvigorate the city while fundraising on a yacht on Wednesday.
We’re told Adams attended a fundraiser hosted by Nebula nightclub owner Yang Gao aboard his MIXX Cruise yacht, The Jewel, along with 50 donor pals, sailing Lower Manhattan by the Brooklyn Bridge and near the Statue of Liberty.
Spies tell us Adams gave a speech to a group that included a mix of professions, from high school teachers to liquor store owners, attorneys, real estate brokers, and nightlife vets.
“He talked about how he is going to try and get everyone who left the city during the pandemic back in NYC,” said a spy. “He said he wants the guy serving tables to be in New York, but also the guy dining there to stay in the city.”
We’re told Adams also “talked about small businesses opening their doors and continuing to operate with help from government agencies,” and that, “he said he wanted to tell every New Yorker in Miami to come back.”
The fundraiser was free, with suggested donations running between $100 and $2,000.
“Adams seems pro-nightlife, pro-small business and hospitality… he wants to use them as tools to bring people back into the city,” said the attendee. “It’s a way for the city to bounce back, to bring people back.”
We’re told the birthday day event included vegan cookies and cake, and balloons with images of Adams’ face.
NYC faced what’s been dubbed an “exodus,” during the pandemic with an estimated 400,000 people leaving according to a New York Times article published last year.
Nebula nightclub is set to open Sept. 23 in Times Square. Gao has partnered with club king Richie Romero on the project.
